Longquan kiln imitation official glaze Cong vase, Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279)

Longquan kiln imitation official glaze Cong style vase, Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Guanfu Museum, Shanghai.

The Longquan kiln was located in Longquan County, Lishui City, Zhejiang Province today. By the late Southern Song Dynasty, its influence spread throughout Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Fujian, forming the Longquan kiln system. It was the porcelain kiln with the largest output in the south during the Southern Song Dynasty. The firing of celadon began in the Southern Dynasties and ended in the Qing Dynasty. The Cong-style vase is a typical Longquan kiln shape obtained during the Southern Song Dynasty by imitating the main features of the Zhou Dynasty jade cong and modifying it. This vase has a round mouth, a square straight belly, convex horizontal straight lines on all four sides, and a circle foot. The mouth and foot are similar in size. The bottle is square on the outside and round on the inside, with an upright and quiet shape.
