With its type locality in Inder, Kazakhstan kurnakovite is named after Nikolai Semenovich Kunakov, (1860-1941), a Russian mineralogist. It is an mineral that forms by the evaporation of water from desert lakes enriched in boron.The present example is a very large size for the species. Fashioned as a lovely pear-shaped stone, it has a lipid quality to it and good luster.
