Catwalk report on Andrew GN Autumn-Winter 2004-5

"BY cleverly sticking to his winning formula of luxurious femininity, Andrew Gn keeps his loyal fanbase steadily growing, and yesterday's show is bound to win him a few more fashion friends. The Singapore-born, Paris-based designer allowed a touch of Thirties nostalgia, by way of stunningly glamorous sculpted goddess gowns in white (Look 35), and silver (Look 36), to infiltrate a collection that featured charming, modest Forties shapes with a touch of the flirty Fifties. The detailing was key, with a black velvet band prettily tied around the drop waist of a subtly flared skirt (Look 8), and short puffed sleeves adding a vintage element to sheer blouses (Look 15), and sculpted suits (Look 3). Wide-legged tailored trousers provided a solid base for pretty jeweled tops that were wrapped in sumptuous shrugs of feathers (Look 19), fur or more beads (Look 22), and tight pencil skirts - some of which suddenly flared out at the knee (Look 16) - added plenty of curve. Cashmere tweed coats featuring appliquéd flowers (Look 1), or high mink collars added a couture-like finality to Gn's particular and impeccable execution." (March 3 2004, AM) www.vogue.co.uk
