Andrew Gn: No Fear of Fur

4077166167

PARIS, Mar 2, 2005/ FW/ --- Andrew GN presented a beautiful Fall/Winter 2005-2006 collection replete with refinement, style and lots and lots of fur.

His early morning show began with exquisitely cut ensembles. The first featured a bronze quilted jacket in silk taffeta with metal thread embroidery. The collar of the jacket, like the one in the ensemble that followed, was trimmed in sable.

He did elegant skirts and short pants in razimir. I like the pants a great deal as they were a play on similar ones popularized in the seventies.

As already stated, fur was a big part of the overall collection. As Andrew GN did not present full-length coats in fur, he did do a short-cropped jacket or two in some divine colours.

He also wisely used his fur as embellishments on his skirt ends, the collars of his jackets, as the front lining on some of his fabric coats or even on some of his dresses.

As for the other elements in this collection, his play on volume was really best expressed in his exquisite and sophisticated blouses. The shoulders were puffy on the short sleeve blouses and on some with long sleeves. He did sophisticated long sleeve blouses with a pouf element above the wrists.

If only one thing can be said of Andrew GN, one must say that he is unashamed to use fur to make women look great and has no fear of our old friends at PETA. Luckily for him (and for me), they won’t make it to Paris until the early next week. And by that time, the fur will be safe and out of their paint throwing reach.

The collection was very typical of the well-known and much appreciated style of designer.

Had you come to the show looking for some surprises, you would have disappointed because there were none. The only thing that might have varied a bit from the general collection was his love tiered dress in black pleated tulle with embroidered metal thread.

In the end, the show was Mr. GN doing what he does best. And that’s making beautiful clothes for the woman who has money to spend and the fashion sense to spend it well. (Photos by Javier Mateo) http://www.fashionwindows.com/runway_shows/andrew_gn/F051.asp
