Mies à Miami
An architect’s rendering of the house shows its solid exterior walls and the long, narrow courtyard that bisects it.
LEARNING FROM A MASTER John Bennett and Terence Riley's house takes cues from Mies van der Rohe's never-built court houses. A photo mural by Richard Misrach fills much of one wall, above.
CLIMATE CONTROL Though the dining area looks light and open, the house’s glass doors were designed with hurricanes in mind.
A bridge leads over a pool to the bedrooms.
FUN HOUSE Mr. Riley, center, and Mr. Bennett built their own house and a mirror-image version next door with Craig Robins, a developer, right. “It was meant for bathing suits,” Mr. Riley said of their own house, “not business suits.”

The image projected above the lap pool is from a work they commissioned from the artist Matthew Weinstein.
A SIMPLE PLAN The house is surrounded by densely planted gardens created by Raymond Jungles, a landscape designer.
