A jadeite figurine carving of ‘Lui Hai’ and his three-legged toad

Carved from semi-translucent jadeite of pale green colour with darker patches, the character ‘Lui Hai’, considered to be one of the most auspicious of the Taoist deities, is depicted with a joyful expression, sitting and holding a string of Chinese coins, a lucky three-legged toad believed to have the power to grant wishes and desires sits on his left shoulder, dimensions 61.7 x 41.2 x 24.4mm. - Sold for HK$30,000 plus Premium and tax

Footnote: Accompanied by a report from the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory, stating that the carving is natural jadeite and no polymer was detected. Report number KJ25881, dated 17th August 2007.
