Two Giant Sawfish Rostra - Pristis microdon, Pristis pectinata - Modern - Philippines

Lot No: 1021. The sawfish (a ray, not a shark) is known by two common names - the common sawfish and the largetooth sawfish. In the present larger specimen, it is easy to understand the latter name. A sawfish rostrum measures approximately one fifth the size of the sawfish’s length; therefore, this rostrum is that of a sawfish which, in life, would have measured 18 – 19 feet in length. Two sawfish rostra, originating from a very old collection from the Philippines, are offered in this lot.
