CORAL GABLES, FL.-Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is exhibiting Botero at Fairchild. Known for signature pieces that portray rotund figures with exaggerated proportions, sculptures by the famed Latin American Master Fernando Botero are on loan from Gary Nader Fine Art, a Miami gallery specializing in Latin American, modern and contemporary art. Botero at Fairchild will be on display through May 31, 2008.

"We are thrilled to share the work of such a celebrated artist," said Bruce Greer, Fairchild's president of the board of trustees. "South Florida has a particular affection for Latin American art, and Botero is among the best."

The outdoor exhibition will feature ten of Botero's bronze sculptures, some reaching more than 14 feet high, and portraying the artist's signature human and animal corpulent figures. Pieces from this exhibition have been shown in the world's major art centers, including Paris, Tokyo and Madrid.

Botero at Fairchild joins exhibitions by Pop artist Lichtenstein and glass artist Chihuly, which already are on display at Fairchild Garden through May 31, 2008.

Italian Policemen have found three stolen sculptures made by Colombian artist Fernando Botero. The sculptures were hidden in the trunk of a car. The agents found the sculptures, which measure 50 to 70 centimeters, outside the city of Verona and arrested as suspects two brothers.

Botero, famous for his "fat people", was "very happy" after the sculptures were found. The seven sculptures have an estimated value of around US $6.2 million and were taken in October of 2007 from a foundry in Pietrasanta, where the sculptor has his summer residence.
