A magnificient pair of large famille verte bottle vases, Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period.
chacun en forme de globe avec un long col droit, décorés sur la panse en bleu, aubergine, jaune, vert, or, sépia et rouge de quatre lions bouddhistes (shizi), chaque animal dans une palette différente, une bande de chrysanthèmes polychromes en rinceaux sous des cartouches ruyi à la base du col, et une frise de croisillons verts et rouges avec des tasseaux suspendus sous le rebord évasé au sommet. 45.5cm, 17 7/8 in. CATALOGUE NOTE: A similar Kangxi bottle vase, from the Winston Guest collection, was sold in our New York rooms, 2nd December 1967, lot 81; and one from the Stephen Junkunc III collection was sold at Christie's New York, 21st September 1995, lot 196. Compare also a vase of this form with the design of three playing lions in wucai enamels, but the neck overall painted with a floral scroll motif in copper-red on a gold-ground, in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Kangxi.
