A CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE INSCRIBED AND DATED CANDLESTICK BASE - DATED 36TH YEAR OF KANGXI, CORRESPONDING TO 1697

Painted with a sinuous dragon pursuing a flaming pearl among cloud scrolls above combed waves, the reverse with a rectangular panel containing the calligraphic inscription, the short neck with a band of pendant ruyi lappets, short crack to neck and some slight chipping to rim
10¼ in. (26 cm.) high. Estimate: £2,000 - £3,000 ($3,908 - $5,862)

Lot Notes: The inscription translates as 'Piously made by Li Zhongju of the Jing Li (Personel?) Department, Raozhou Prefecture, Jiangxi Province. A pair of candlesticks to be offered to the God of the Stove of the Huaxian City. On an auspicious day in the Autumn month, 36th year of the Kangxi reign'.
