Apollonio Domenichini, alternatively identified as Master of the Langmatt Foundation Views (active Venice circa 1740-176?) - The Grand Canal, Venice, from the Rialto Bridge towards Palazzo Foscari
oil on canvas. 57.1 x 85.2cm (22 1/2 x 33 9/16in).- Sold for £57,600
Note: The present painting may be compared to works emanating from a studio whose oeuvre has been traditionally grouped together under the title of the Master of the Langmatt Foundation Views. The eponymous works in the Langmatt Foundation, Baden, comprise a set of nine pictures (each approximately 46 x 73 cm.) and a set of four smaller views (approximately 25 x 38 cm.; see the exhibition catalogue Mythos Venedig, Baden, June-October 1994, pp. 62-117). Recently it has been suggested that the Master of the Langmatt Foundation Views may be identifiable with Apollonio Domenichini (active circa 1740-1760).
