A fine and large Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Tsong-kha-pa. 17th/18th Century

Raised on an elaborate double lotus base with beaded borders, the lama wearing the characteristic peaked cap and thick brocade-patterned monastic robes while seated dhyanasana with his hands raised in the dharmacakra mudra and holding the stems of two lotus sprays supporting a khadga (sword) and a pustaka (book) to either side of his smiling face with an urna inlaid with turquoise (unsealed). 13 1/2in (34.3cm) high - Sold for $18,000 (Copyright © 2002-2008 Bonhams 1793 Ltd., Images and Text All Rights Reserved)
