A large Finely Painted gilt- and iron-red decorated charger. Qing dynasty, Kangxi period
of shallow circular form with a broad flaring rim, the center depicting a lady seated in a palanquin with her attendant holding a tray bearing a wine ewer and cups, bidding farewell to a scholar on horseback and to his acolyte, towering hills in the distance and rockwork in the foreground, the cavetto with a band of flowerheads reserved against a diaper ground, the wide rim encircled by a wide border of cartouches enclosing lively scenes of scholars and ladies reserved on a chrysanthemum and lotus ground, painted in vibrant iron-red, black, pale green enamel and gilt highlights - diameter 19 in., 48.3 cm - Estimate: 12,000—18,000 USD - Lot Sold: 12,500 USD
