An Egyptian yellow jasper face inlay. New Kingdom, circa 1550-1070 B.C.
Probably from a composite royal figure, in profile to the left, with full lips and aquiline nose, the large eye with extended cosmetic line and curved brow above, both recessed for inlay, the large ear protruding behind, 1½in (3.9cm) high. Sold for £26,400
Provenance: Formerly in the Gawain McKinley Collection, acquired before 1996.
