Looking upon Todd Williamson’s paintings at once recalls landscapes of remote wooded areas, lakes and distant mountains bathed in ambient light of sunsets and foggy mornings. While the works seem allude to distinct locations, their abstract nature defies identification. They are memories referencing Williamson’s childhood living in a small Southern town on the edge of a forest.
Each painting draws on Williamson’s personal experiences from his childhood to his lifelong interest in music. The artist divides his paintings with several horizontal lines like the staffs from a sheet of music. The lines establish rhythm to the work and help further the abstraction of the landscapes.
Williamson is entering a busy winter with Lines of Vision opening in early November and two upcoming shows in Milan and Nashville. David Ward www.artphile.com
