A Böttger red-stonware tea caddy, circa 1715

of hexagonal baluster form, each panel moulded in relief with branches of flowers and leaves, alternating with one branch with a bird perched on it and a second one above; the other one with a bird flying in the air, the edges of foot, shoulders and six ribs decorated with Kerbschnitt (small chip to one edge of footrim). 8.5cm., 3 3 / 8 in. Estimate 12,000—18,000 GBP

NOTE: The form and decoration of this tea caddy are taken from a Chinese Yixing example.
