Estimate 150,000—200,000 USD NOTE: William James remains an elusive figure of 18th century painting with little known about his life or career beyond exhibitions at the Society of Artists between 1761 and 1768, and at the Royal Academy between 1769 and 1771. Milan Fall 2009 Men : Etro

Photo: Marcio Madeira Kean Etro is fearless in his willingness to use fashion as a vehicle for often woolly philosophizing. But his new theme—In Vino Veritas—had an irresistible appropriateness. You drink, you talk too much, and maybe you tell the truth. It's safe to assume there's more nerve-steadying boozing going on right now in the world at large, and Kean would surely be a happy man if that led to more honesty. He did his bit with a collection inspired by red wine. Under that umbrella there was a range of tones to play... [Lire la suite]

Milan Fall 2009 Men : Neil Barrett

Photo: Marcio Madeira In a perverse way, you approach the new season craving irrational responses to the barrage of bad news that bombards all corners of human commerce. Just say no to playing it safe. Neil Barrett did."You know, I’m fascinated by hybrids," he said backstage, as a practically superfluous reminder of his past cockeyed mash-ups. Tuxedo Ski? Amish Punk? This time, it was Abstract Eccentric. Barrett dissected the wardrobe of an English country gentleman and reordered it in trompe l’oeil... [Lire la suite]

Estimate 70,000—90,000 USD NOTE: Though a fine painter of real views of Rome, it was Panini's fanciful capricci of architectural ruins and palazzi which secured his international fame and popularity and which left an indelible mark on European landscape painting, inspiring a number of important French and Italian artists. The present canvas represents a striking and skillful... [Lire la suite]

Milan Fall 2009 Men : Prada
