Superbes manteaux et superbe casting!

L'invitation, les glaces disposées comme des mobiles en plein milieu du catwalk, mais aussi les petits miroirs incrustés dans les revers des costumes comme des vanitas : la nouvelle collection de Raf Simons dialogue sur fond de reflets et vanités. L'homme-miroir du créateur a surpris son auditoire en jouant la carte de l'homme d'affaires, en ces temps de disette financière.

L'étonnante première partie offre une parade de costumes les uns plus classiques que les autres. Raf Simons sait lui aussi décliner à l'envi un parterre commercial parfait pour n'importe quel businessman. Dans une deuxième partie, il accentue cette impeccable élégance- lui l'habitué de l'innovation - grâce à des protections de costumes conçues comme des carapaces, certaines en rose fluo, et affronte de face les règles de la bienséance du tailleur. Un costume gris voit apparaître sur ses manches un camel de bon ton ; plus loin, d'autres manches deviennent bleues électriques. 

Le créateur inspecte de fond en comble un classique dont l'apparence est aujourd'hui mise à mal et parasite tout en subtilité la respectabilité du sartorialisme pour le renouveler, loin au dessus des autres. L'innovateur de la mode Homme est devenu un penseur sans pour autant oublier de rendre un hommage constant à la réhabilitation de tendances qu'il est l'un des seuls à confectionner. The mirrored invitations, the huge reflective panels that revolved in the middle of the catwalk, the model casting that was more conventionally good-looking than usual…these could all be construed as signposts to the heart of Raf Simons' latest collection. According to the designer's longtime DJ-collaborator Michel Gaubert, the theme was vanity and performance. So there were the kind of sartorially precise suits that present a man's best front to the world, especially when he's engaged in the kind of financial chicanery that has plunged us into our present sorry state.

But that very thought raised another subtext—the idea of duality, the public face and the face in the mirror. Simons brilliantly played off the notion by manipulating unlikely face-offs between the conventional and the not-so: a camel coat had gray flannel lapels, a gray flannel jacket had camel sleeves. A knit shrug was laid over a suit. The remnants of a techno-fabric jacket made another. But the sharpest juxtapositions were neoprenelike shrugs in hot pink or bright blue hauled over flannel or pinstripes to create the impression of an alien other. The effect was heightened by the small pieces of mirror inlaid in jacket lapels.
