A famille rose snuff bottle. Iron-red Daoguang four-character seal mark and of the period

Of compressed form with convex lip and recessed oval foot, painted on one side with a couple by a river, the reverse painted with a blossoming willow tree, with stopper.  6.9cm (2¾in) high. (2). Sold for £5,040

Provenance: the Jarras Collection, England

Note: Snuff bottles of this bublous form were initiated in the Daoguang period, and continued to be produced in the Xianfeng period. A related Daoguang-marked bottle of the same form and similarly painted on one side with a willow tree is illustrated by H.K.F.Hui and C.C.H.Hui, An Imperial Qing Tradition, Hong Kong, 1994, Catalogue no.9.
