An early Babani orientalist gold brocaded evening jacket, circa 1912

labelled "V.Babani 98 Bd Haussmann Paris", cut Persian style lower at the back, with angled cross-over panels to the front which prestud fasten at the waist, slashed sleeves, lined in pale green silk and edged in green and wine striped silk. Estimate: £1,000 - £1,500

Condition: would originally have had hook and eye fasteners - now there are prestuds, green silk lining at armholes particularly the underarms has perished. The fabric is very fresh in appearance - a wonderful orientalist weave in shades of gold and ivory. The red and green striped edging silk is generally good - the lining silk is only fragile around the armholes.
