L'émergence de la dynastie est liée à l'accès au trône de Trần Thái Tông (1226-1258) qui dépose la Dynastie Lý. Après 175 ans, elle connaitra son terme avec l'abdication du roi Thiếu Đế, âgé de 5 ans en faveur de son grand père maternel, Hồ Quý Ly.
