Five Gusoku, 1839 & Edo Period

Comprising five plate russet iron kabuto overlaid with iron shinodari, the front plate boldly embossed with eyebrows, the small mabisashi gilded and with roped rim laced to the front plate, four lame shikoro with large fukigayeshi applied with an Ugeta mon, maedate in the form of a sheaf of leaves and wakidate in the form of holly leaves, well modelled russet iron mempo with deep wrinkles and protruding chin, detachable nose with horse-hair moustache, three lame yodare-kake, the interior lacquered red, uchidashi-do, the front plate embossed with a dragon with gold eyes amidst swirling clouds, shakudo edging and mounts engraved with Ugeta mon, detachable five lame kusazuri, tetsu-gote, six lame lacquered iron sode, sendai haidate, o-tateage suneate, and russet iron kogake: contained in an iron-mounted armour box. Sold for £10,200

Comprising forty-two plate russet iron suji-bachi kabuto with seven-stage tehan-kanemono, leather-covered mabisashi with kuwagata-dai engraved with foliage and brass kuwagata, and three lame shikoro, the leather-covered fukigayeshi applied with gilt mon, well modelled russet iron mempo with detachable nose and copper teeth, five lame kebiki laced kozane yodare-kake, the interior lacquered red, the yukinoshita do of five russet iron plates (lacing perished), the front plate decorated with a Tokugawa mon in gold lacquer, five lame kebiki laced kozane kusazuri, lacquered iron sode, tsutsu-gote, haidate composed of numerous iron plates, and bishamon-sunate: contained in an iron-mounted armour box with replacement lid. Comprising twelve plate lacquered iron suji-bachi kabuto with downturned mabisashi, bronze kuwagata pierced with scrolls and a vajra, and three lame kebiki laced kozane shikoro with small fukigayeshi, russet lacquered iron mempo with detachable nose, the interior lacquered red, three lame yodare-kake, the okegawa-do of overlapping iron plates and imitation lacing, five lame kebiki laced kozane kusazuri, the lower lame each lacquered with three hoshi mon in gold, kusari manju-no-wa, combined kebiki laced kozane sode and tetsu-gote, haidate lacquered with mon, and shino-suneate: contained in a modern wood armour box. Comprising thirty-two plate lacquered iron suji-bachi kabuto with five-stage tehan kanemono, leather-covered downturned mabisashi, and five lame kebiki laced kozane shikoro with leather-covered fukigayeshi applied with gilt mon, maedate in the form of a brass disc and two scrolling horns, russet lacquered iron mempo with detachable nose, horse-hair moustache and copper teeth, three lame kebiki laced kozane yodare-kake, the interior lacquered red, kusari manju-no-wa covered in silk brocade, kebiki laced kozane tachi-do, five lame kusazuri, lacquered iron kebiki laced kozane sode, shino-gote kusari haidate, shino suneate, and lacquered iron kogake: contained in an iron-mounted armour box. Comprising red lacquered iron tatami kabuto of five plates with a four lame shikoro held in place by an iron loop (lacing damaged), large maedate of metal embossed with gilt leaves and red berries, red lacquered iron hambo with four lame yodare-kake, manju-no-wa of small iron plates covered with red linen, tatami do of red lacquered iron plates joined by mail and opening on the right side, a sashimono and socket mounted to the back, kusazuri also constructed of iron plates, oda gote of red lacquered iron plates and mail, and kusari haidate with red lacquered plates. Sold for £1,320
