Balenciaga. Semi-formal evening-dress, 1966

Sleeveless evening dress of fine blue linen, with a fitted bodice, a deep, scooped neckline and full gathered skirt which falls to the knee in front and drops to the floor in the back. This peacock-tail silhouette is one for which Balenciaga was renowned. The dress is hand-embroidered in a stylized floral motif of openwork eyelet to reveal flesh toned silk lining in the bodice and blue silk in the skirt.

Sleeveless dress of rose gazar with a fitted bodice which extends slightly below the waist in the back and a gathered skirt trimmed at the hem with lace. Two tubular shaped panels, edged in lace and attached to the back, are gathered to give shape and fall to form a slight peacock train.
