exquisitely potted with shallow flaring sides gently rising from a slightly tapered foot, evenly applied overall with a lustrous enamel of stunning lemon-yellow colour, the underside reserved in white and inscribed with a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue.

Exhibited: Chugoku Shinchou Toji Meijin ten, The Japan Ceramic Society (Tokai Shibu), Tokugawa Art Museum, Nagoya, 1953.

Note: A closely related pair of dishes from the T.Y. Chao collection, included in the exhibitions Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1973, cat. no. 38, and Ming and Ch'ing Porcelain from the Collection of the T.Y. Chao Family Foundation, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong,, 1978, cat. no. 54, was sold in these rooms, 19th May 1987, lot 282; another pair from the Sir Percival David collection and now in the British Museum, London, is included in the Illustrated Catalogue of Ming and Qing Monochrome Wares, section 6, London, 1989, p. 51, nos B541 and B542.
