A pair of green-glazed Saucer Dishes. Yongzheng Marks And Period.  Photo Sotheby's

each with shallow rounded sides rising from a short straight foot to an everted rim, the exterior finely incised with pomegranates borne on undulating stems with feathery leaves, applied overall with a rich green glaze with a slightly iridescent sheen and leaving the base glazed white, the base inscribed with a six-character Yongzheng mark within a double circle . Quantity: 2 - 16cm., 6 1/4 in. Estimate 40,000-60,000 GBP. Unsold

The Cartwright collection of Qing monochrome wares.

NOTE: A closely related example from the Mrs. James Alsdorf collection was sold at Christie's New York, 3rd June 1993, lot 236. See a slightly smaller dish, in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Ch'ing Dynasty Monochrome Porcelain, Taipei, 1981, pl. 43; one sold in our New York rooms, 4th December 1984, lot 358; another sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29th November 1977, lot 91; and a fourth example sold at Christie's New York, 30th March 2005, lot 410.

Dishes of this type are more commonly found incised with the bajixiang (Eight Buddhist Emblems) on the exterior; for example see a dish of this size and glaze from the H.M. Knight collection, sold in these rooms, 11th December 1979, lot 335; and a larger example from the Edward T. Chow and Hall Family collections, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 2nd May 2000, lot 545.
