of baluster form, carved in low relief and painted with a stalk of bamboo issuing from a tall rock flanked by flowering peony and chrysanthemum plants, six-character mark in underglaze blue within a double circle. Height 9 3/4 in., 24.7 cm. Estimate 40,000-50,000 USD. Lot Sold: 50,000 USD
NOTE: A similarly decorated vase of larger size is in the British Museum, illustrated in W. B. Honey, Chinese Porcelain, London, 1927, pl. 49. A similarly decorated jardinière, also bearing a Kangxi reign mark, was sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 12th May 1976, lot 162.
