of cylindrical form set with a short neck with a galleried rim, the body well-painted in varying tones of sapphire blue with six reserves of quatrefoil, fan and rectangular panels containing a traveling scholar in a landscape, a kingfisher alighting on a bough of peony, treasured objects, a pair of crane amidst lotus blossoms, deer under pine, and a basket of flowers all against a rich blue ground with scrolling lotus borne on undulating stems issuing leaves, set below a peony scroll at the shoulder and ruyi and key-fret bands collaring the neck. Height 18 3/8 in., 46. 8 cm. Estimate 18,000-24,000 USD. Lot Sold: 43,750 USD

PROVENANCE: Sir William Henry Bennett, KCVO MRCS LRCP FRCS (1852-1931).
Sold in 1906 to either Edgar Gorer, whose firm published in A Collection of Old Chinese Porcelains Collected by Sir William Bennett KCVO, London, 1910, or to James Henry Duveen who held an exhibit of blue and white porcelain belonging to Sir William in 1906.
