Hiroshi Suzuki, 'Ayawind I' @ Adrian Sassoon, TEFAF Maastricht
Adrian Sassoon will bring 'Ayawind I' to TEFAF Maastricht (16-25 March 2012), made by Hiroshi Suzuki (1961) in 2011. Using nothing more than a hammer, Suzuki conjures from single flat sheets of silver, free flowing, organic sculptural vessels which owe more to the warm fluidity of nature than to the cold rigidity of metal. By combining the discipline of traditional skill with an entirely intuitive working practice, he has developed a unique and very personal visual language. Drawing on both East and West, his work combines a pared down aesthetic with the tradition of displaying silver purely for its luminous beauty. His work has been highly critically acclaimed and is represented in the permanent collections of leading museums. Hammer-raised and chased Fine silver 999, height: 31.5 cm; diameter 28 cm.
