of rounded form, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, viridian green, and relief red with roses, tulips, carnations, hyacinths and a saz leaf, the bracketed rim with stylised breaking wave motifs, alternating tulips and flowerheads to reverse; 30cm. diameter. Lot 149. Estimate 20,000-30,000 GBP

NOTE: This and the dish in the following lot are embellished with a combination of the most iconic forms of Iznik decoration, the favoured floral motifs and the swaggering saz leaf. This example bears a red bole experimental in its use and can, therefore, be dated to the earliest years of its appearance, in the 1560s.
