Whimsical lots and dazzling diamonds highlight the Bonhams Fine Jewellery auction
NEW YORK — Bonhams is excited to announce the April 19 Fine Jewellery auction. Featuring a wide variety of alluring pieces whose styles range from classic elegance to whimsical artistry, this diverse sale is certain to appeal to a variety of jewellery collectors. As the first jewellery sale of the year, the Bonhams jewellery department is setting a course for excellent pieces of the finest craftsmanship.
This auction's collection of breathtaking diamond lots includes several large diamond solitaire rings, the star lot among them being a 14.82 carat marquise-shaped diamond solitaire ring (pre-sale est. $250,000 - 350,000). This stunning diamond is flanked by two triangular-cut diamond shoulders, weighing two carats combined, and mounted in eighteen karat white gold. Another diamond highlight is a gorgeous 9.58 carat fancy yellow coloured diamond ring (pre-sale est. $125,000 - 175,000) with two triangular-cut diamond shoulders.

Whimsical items add a charming quality to this auction, a primary example being a Cartier black suede handbag featuring a detachable brooch of a black and red enamel hand holding a gold flower set centering an old European-cut diamond (pre-sale est. $1,500 - 2,500). This beautiful clutch comes from the estate of Hazel Forbes Richmond, a legendary Ziegfeld follies girl, and is accompanied by several pieces of correspondence from Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy.
Also with in the theme is a 1960 Cartier extraordinary color-change star sapphire, amethyst, and diamond brooch in the shape of a turtle (pre-sale est. $10,000 - 15,000). The eye-catching central stone is an oval cabochon color-change star sapphire is accentuated by circular-cut amethyst legs, heart-shaped amethyst head, pavé-set round brilliant-cut diamonds and further single brown diamond detail.
