In 1986, Axel and May Vervoordt purchased the Castle of ‘s-Gravenwezel, a 50-room castle situated just outside of Antwerp.
The castle, parts of which date as far back as the 12th century, was rebuilt from 1740 on as a contemporary country mansion by the eminent Antwerp architect Jan-Pieter van Baurscheit the Younger, who kept the original medieval castle intact and changed the castle’s appearance into a fascinating mix of 15th and 18th century architectural styles. adapted by Bauerscheit.
After a few years of careful restoration by the Vervoordts, the castle and the side buildings were ready to accommodate all the offices and staff and the company moved from the original home of the Vlaeykensgang to ‘s Gravenwezel.
In the period that followed, the company began a period of substantial growth and in 2000, the company bought the Kanaal to provide new exposition rooms, workshops and storage spaces to further serve client needs.
