Lot 251. A Guan-type square vase (Cong), Qianlong seal mark and period (1736-1795). Height 11 1/8 in., 28.2 cm. Estimate 30,000 - 40,000 USDLot sold 116,500 USD. Photo Sotheby's 

molded on each side with the 'Eight Trigrams'  between a low flared foot and short waisted neck, all covered in an unctuous gray-green glaze suffused with dark gray crackling, the foot dressed in dark brown, seal mark in underglaze blue. 

Provenance: Acquired by a U.S. Civil Affairs Officer in Asia between 1945-1946 and thence by descent.

Note: Similar vases, catalogued as ge or guan-type were sold in these rooms 4th June, 1986, lot 136 and in our Hong Kong rooms, 23rd October 2005, lot 301 and 8th April 2001, lot 3006.
