A very fine and rare anhua wintergreen or celadon glazed porcelain dish with shou character, China, underglaze blue six-character mark and period of Yongzheng. Photo Nagel
The dish has shallow rounded sides, flat base and low ring foot. The centre of the interior is decorated with a stylized shou (longevity) character surrounded by clouds and waves within a single-line medallion outside of which is a band of waves. The underside is decorated with a design of waves around the base. All the designs are finely engraved in anhua style. The dish is covered with a pale celadon or wintergreen glaze. Two tiny burst glaze bubbles to interior, good condition. D. 16,3 cm. Estimate 50 000/70 000 €
A very similar dish of the type is preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y., see Accession Number: 27.131.3 (Gift of George D. Pratt, 1927) and in the ‘The S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection’, Part II, Hongkong Museum of Art, no. 156.
