USD 816,500 jade vase highlights Maynards'  USD 2.9 million Auction of International and Asian Art;

VANCOUVER, BC.- The International and Asian Art Auction held at Maynards on Tuesday and Wednesday night exceeded its $1.2 to $1.5 million projected range, bringing in $2.9 million. Although it was a rainy night in Vancouver, 150 people attended the auction session in person on Wednesday night and there were bidders from over 50 countries that participated in the sale by phone and online.

The featured lot of the night was a jade vase of very pale celadon, once part of the Sabet collection. It was a feature of the auction catalogue and it did not disappoint, selling for $816,500 (all prices include buyer’s premium). A similar jade vase of pale celadon sold for $598,000. The exquisitely carved pieces were last purchased from Christies Auction House, London, in June 1971 and had each had a presale estimate of $40,000 to $60,000. All together the five lots from the Sabet collection brought in $2.1 million.

Other highlighted items at tonight’s session include:

· Chinese imperial jade table screen sold for $230,000

· Chinese spinach green jade potpourri holder sold for $115,000 ·

“Chinese light celadon jade incense burner and cover sold for $299,000

· Order of the Double Dragon” medal sold for $69,000

We are excited by the level of interest that the bidders showed tonight,” says Hugh Bulmer, Vice President of Maynards. “It truly speaks to the value and distinction of pieces that we attract from our consigners.”
