Pair of gold ear clips, 'Escargot', Suzanne Belperron, circa 1970s
Pair of gold ear clips, 'Escargot', Suzanne Belperron, circa 1970s - Sotheby's
Each composed of lightly hammered gold, in the form of a snail, French assay and maker’s marks, one clip Darde & Cie, the other Darde & Fils.
Accompanied by a certificate from Olivier Baroin.
NOTE: Suzanne Belperron showed a great interest in a variety of exotic cultures, using them as sources of inspiration. African arts, very popular in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century, proved to be highly appreciated by Belperron. The use of martelage, or hammering, a technique used by the African artisans, is reflective of this interest.
