SUZANNE BELPERRON

Suzanne Belperron commence sa carrière en tant que dessinatrice pour Jeanne Boivin de 1925 à 1933, date à laquelle elle rejoint Bernard Herz. Elle devient alors une pionnière dans le monde de la mode et du bijou moderne au même titre que René Boivin, Coco Chanel et Elsa Schiaparelli. Son style est reconnaissable entre tous, imaginatif, osé et reconnu des deux côtés de l'Atlantique. Aventurière intrépide, Belperron voyage au Proche-Orient pour étudier le travail traditionnel de l'or et en Inde pour choisir rubis et saphirs. Elle puise son inspiration dans la nature mais également dans les tissus d'Orient, les ornements mayas et les dessins tribaux africains. En 1945, elle s'associe à Jean Herz, fils de Bernard, et crée Herz-Belperron qui perdurera jusqu'à sa retraite en 1974. Ses créations sont toujours produites à Paris mais ne sont plus distribuées que par Edward J. et Nico Landrigan chez Verdura à New York. 

Suzanne Belperron began her career designing for Jeanne Boivin between 1925 and 1933. She joined Bernard Herz in 1933 and became one of the pioneers of modern dress and jewellery, ranked with René Boivin, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. Her style was distinctive, bold, imaginative and celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic. An intrepid traveller, Belperron voyaged to the Near East to study ancient gold work and to India to select rubies and sapphires. She was inspired by nature and ethnic sources such as the paisleys of the Orient, Mayan ornaments and African tribal designs. In 1945, she established a partnership with Herz's son, Jean. Known as Herz-Belperron, this lasted until her retirement in 1974. Her last known jewel was made in 1980. Suzanne died in 1983, but her designs continue to be produced in Paris and are offered exclusively by Edward J. and Nico Landrigan at Verdura, New York.
