A Late 19th-Early 20th Century Gem-Set Pendant Necklace, by Louis Wiese. Photo Christie's Image Ltd 2013
The pendant of openwork scrolling foliate design, with emerald cabochon and pearl accents among chased leaf motifs, suspending a single pearl drop, to the belcher link chain interspersed with simailarly designed scrolling foliate and quatrefoil panel links, after 1890, 62.0cm long, maker’s case. Signed Weise, with maker’s mark for Louis Wiese. Estimate: $37,725 – $52,815
Notes: In utilising acanthus scroll and quatrefoil motifs this piece both evokes the Gothic period that is so redolent of Jules Wiese design, whilst simultaneously heralding the new era of both Louis Wiese and the Art Nouveau with the curvacious scrolling lines of the pendant setting.
Please note these pearls have not been tested for natural origin.
