Ancient Roman Gold Solidus Coin of Emperor Valens - 364 AD
An ancient Roman solidus of Emperor Valens, (Flavius Julius Valens Augustus) struck 364 - 378 A.D. in Antioch, Turkey.
The obverse with the pearl diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valens, facing right. The legend reading: D[ominvs] N[oster] VALENS PER[petvvs] F[elix] AVG[vstvs] - "Our Lord Valens, Eternally Lucky Augustus"
The reverse shows Valens, in military attire, standing facing, head right, holding labarum (military standard) ornamented with Christogram in right hand and with winged Victory sat atop a globe resting in left hand. The legend reading: RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE - "Restorator of the Republic"
Antioch mint mark in exergue.
