3

Golden Fleece with oriental opal, 1724; three opal cabochons, 101 foiled rose diamonds, gold, silver. Jewel: 11.5 x 6.8 cm; Coulant: 2.6 x 3.0 cm. VIII 2. Green Vault © Dresden State Art Collections 2013

A now lost contemporary collection of woven Order of Augustus the Strong delivered to the January 1724 as the date of submission of the "fleece (it) with 3 large oriental opals and small diamonds on red foil." Probably created by a no longer identifiable jeweler outside of Dresden, is the gem opals with a remarkable piece of jewelry. In the way the diamond mount that rarely occurs in appearance, and the absence of decorative enamel, it is unique among the religious fabric of Augustus the Strong. This web orders had first behind his chief captains Coulant a stone. Through the hollow worked Coulant the two ends of the fabric collar could be drawn. This improved the comfort and proper fit of the quite heavy order. The opals used for the nonwoven orders were - especially in this size - very rare. This may explain why the large, milky white opal on the flame bunch was used, although it has internal cracks. The lambent flames bundle is completely set with rose cut diamonds. Give the above-fitting diamonds and opals highlighted the top two films a peculiar red color gloss. The diamonds around the three main stones have a characteristic transparency. This effect produced by the jeweler that he put the diamond roses for the most part in individual frames and then joined together with bridges. A look at the back of the fleece Order illustrates this. Thus, the fine side of the flame flames bundle appear to float without any connection between the flames. At the end of his life August the Strong thirteen fabric Orders were available. Except for the Jewel Sapphire garnish all ensembles containing at least one Ordenskleinod.
