Numerous weapons captured from various battles of the Greek War of Independence found their way to Russia to Central Europe. Between Prussia and Russia were at the time close family connections. An Indian Mughal dagger was captured in 1828 by the Russians in Varna. Tsar Nicholas I gave this richly decorated with precious stones weapon to his brother, Prince Carl of Prussia, who in 1838 replaced this piece to Dresden. The double-edged, Damascene blade of the dagger is slightly curved, flamed and tauschiert with gold. The also slightly curved and rolled the knob handle is inlaid with white jade and emeralds and rubies in gold plated silver settings. Its decor consists of stylized flowers and leaves. The wooden scabbard is covered with blue gray velvet and filled with fittings that match the handle material and decor. At the mouth there is a golden belt cords with an oval sapphire and a small puff of emeralds and rubies.
