the overhanging cornice above a cushion-moulded drawer and pair of doors inlaid with a vase of flowers on a plinth opening to reveal a central door concealing two long and four short drawers inlaid with fruitwood geometric motifs, the sides of the recess and reverse of the door inlaid with arches above a strapwork floor flanked by  nine short drawers above a long drawer inlaid to simulate three short drawers, the sides inlaid with a vase of flowers, the stand with a frieze drawer on four spirally turned legs joined by and x-form stretcher on later bun feet; 160cm. high, 116cm. wide, 50cm. deep; 5ft.3in., 3ft. 9¾in., 1ft. 7¾in. Estimation 7,000 — 10,000 GBP

This wonderful cabinet relates very closely to an example in collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. This cabinet, like the offered lot, features an abundance of sophisticated inlay and is illustrated by Reinier Baarsen, Dutch Furniture, 1600-1800, Amsterdam, 1993, no. 27, p. 60. Both cabinets feature classical urns overflowing with floral bouquets and recall still life painting from the same period. The mix of veneers employed is similar and notably the sprigs flowers of contrasting stained horn.
