‘The Paradise’

The present bowl features a thick, bold Kufic inscription that is typical of a group of fine calligraphic dishes from the Samanid period which were elegantly inscribed with a brush and then tidied up along the edges of the inscription with a palette knife. These were set on a pristine white ground to show off the calligraphy to its greatest effect.
