"From Monet to Picasso: The Batliner Collection" opens at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein
Claude Monet, Seerosenteich, um 1917-19, ALBERTINA, Vienna - The Batliner Collection
VADUZ - Rita and Herbert Batliner’s collection is now going on show to the public for the first time in Liechtenstein, with Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein set to showcase a representative choice of works. The show includes works by Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cézanne, Max Ernst, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti and Georg Baselitz.
The Batliner collection covers a period ranging from important works of Impressionism and Fauv- ism to German Expressionism and Bauhaus to the Russian avant-garde, from Pablo Picasso to selected works from the latter half of the 20th century. With around 500 works of classical modernism and contemporary art, it is regarded as one of the largest and most important private collections in Europe. The collection was transferred on permanent loan to the Albertina in Vien- na in 2007.
The exhibition From Monet to Picasso. The Batliner Collection – Albertina Vienna rounds off the series of exhibitions organised by Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein dedicated to private collections housed in Liechtenstein, with the Museum giving visitors an overview of the Hilti Art Foundation collection in 2005, the collection of Veronika and Peter Monauni in 2009, and, most recently, the collection of the non-profit Mezzanin Foundation for Art in 2011.
A richly illustrated publication with explanatory texts on the artists on show at Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and their works accompanies the exhibition.
The exhibition is being developed in co-operation with the Albertina in Vienna.
