Le grand col évasé et le pied, à bordures lobées, sculptés de grandes feuilles de bananiers nervurées, la partie centrale renflée décorée d'un motif de dragons gui archaïsant ; la pièce sculptée en trois parties assemblées, pied, corps et col, craquelure à la bordure. Hauteur : 15,7 cm. A RHINOCEROS HORN GU FORM LIBATION CUP, CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 17TH-18TH CENTURY 

Ce type de coupe en forme de vase archaïsant Gu est très rare. Un exemple similaire avec une anse, appartenant à la collection Gérard Levy (Paris) est illustré dans Jan Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, London 1999, p.151, pl.182 ; voir également le vase sans anse illustré p. 152, pl. 183. Cette forme est reprise des bronze archaïques de l'époque Shang et a été reproduite au cours des siècles en diverses matières tel ce vase en porcelaine marqué Qianlong, présentant ce même décor de palmes, faisant partie des collections impériales et illustré dans, The Complete Collection of Treasures from the Palace Museum, Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decaration, Hong Kong 1999, ill. 150 

This type of rhinoceros libation cup in shape of archaistic beaker vase is very unusual. For a comparable example see another cup with handle in the Gerard Lévy Collection (Paris), illustrated in Jan Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, London 1999, p.151, pl.182 ; see also a vase without handle illustrated p.152, pl.183. This form is taken from archaic bronzes of the Shang Dynasty and has been used in different periods and materials such as this porcelain Gu vase, mark and period of Qianlong, from the Qing Court Collection, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures from the Palace Museum, Porcelains with Cloisonne Enamel Decoration and Famille Rose Decaration, Hong Kong 1999, ill. 150
