the shallow rounded sides rising from a short foot to a thick rolled rim, deeply carved through thick layers of red and black lacquer with two rows of guri pommels enclosing a five-pointed star in the centre, the exterior similarly decorated with a foliate scroll, the base lacquered brown, Japanese wood box.
