Lot 215. A Rare 'Yaozhou' Celadon Carved Ewer, Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127). Height 4 3/4 in., 12 cm. Estimate 200,000 — 300,000 USD. Lot sold 197,000 USD. Photo: Sotheby's.

the cylindrical body rising from a flat foot to canted shoulders set with a rib-strapped handle opposite a short curved spout, the waisted neck incised with two double line bands below the everted rim with lipped edge, carved all around with scrolling peony and covered overall with a clear glaze of dark olive-green color stopping at the base.

Note: Yaozhou ewers of this form are extremely rare, and there appear to be no other published examples. A small Yaozhou ewer with similar decoration and handle and spout, but with a different neck, was sold at Christie's New York, 21st - 22nd March 2013, lot 1170.
