Lot 476. A pair of café-au-lait-glazed barbed-rim dishes, Qianlong seal marks and period  (1736-1795). Diameter 8 1/8 in., 20.5 cm. Estimate 40,000 — 60,000 USD. Lot sold 53,125 USD. Photo Sotheby's.

each with deep everted sides resting to a flared barbed rim with eight bracket foliations, the exterior encircled with raised double filets, all beneath a glossy and opaque pale brown glaze, the base glazed white, six-character seal marks in underglaze blue (2). 

Provenance: Bobby Chapman, Debden Manor, Essex, England acquired from S. Marchant & Son, London, 1969.

Note: A nearly identical dish from the Meiyintang Collection was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 7th April 2011, lot 33 and a pair of the same type from the H.M Knight collection was also sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 29th November 1979, lot 326.
