Annamese Glazed Stoneware Bowl, 14th Century

Annamese Glazed Stoneware Bowl, 14th Century. Photo Doyle New York. Of patra shape, incised on the interior base and sides with a loosely drawn flower head on a leafy stem, the exterior carved with a loose floral lappet design, covered overall with a green tinted translucent glaze, interior base with five spur marks. Diameter 7 inches. Small 3.4 inch long hairline extending from rim downward. Unglazed base wtih four scratch marks incised into the base. Nice color. Of compressed form, the wide lip slightly concave, supported by an oval foot rim surrounding a shallowly recessed foot, with fixed ring mask handles on the sides, the interior very well-hollowed. 2 1/4in (5.7cm) high. Of compressed globular form, with a concave lip, well-hollowed interior and oval foot rim surrounding a flat foot, the natural inclusions carved in high relief to represent a piebald horse beneath a pine with a lingzhi fungus adjacent, reversed by a monkey seated on a rock, holding a peach and coyly glancing over its shoulder. 2 1/4in (5.7cm) high.
