GENEVE - Le 13 mai prochain, Sotheby’s Genève mettra en vente trois diamants dans le cadre de sa vente de haute joaillerie.

Parmi ces trésors, une pierre historique: le « Victory Diamond », un diamant de taille rectangulaire à pans coupés de 31,34 carats, commémorant la victoire des Alliés lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Le diamant brut de 770 carats donta été extrait le « Victory Diamond » a été découvert en 1945, dans la mine de “Woyie River”. Il était alors le plus gros diamant brut connu au monde. Le « Victory Diamond » est le plus grand des 30 diamants qui furent taillés dans cette pierre au début des années 1950.

Cette pierre exceptionnelle a été certifiée de couleur « D » et « Potentially Flawless » par leGIA (Gemological Institute of America). Elle s’avère également être un diamant de type IIa, une catégorie très recherchée comprenant les diamants les plus purs chimiquement, souvent d’une extraordinaire transparence optique. Le « Victory Diamond » appartint à Florence Gould, connue comme l’une des plus grandes collectionneuses de bijoux du 20e siècle.

Autre diamant d’exception: le « Graff Vivid Yellow », un diamant jaune « daffodil » sensationnel pesant 100,09 carats. Cette pierre d’une beauté et d’une intensité extraordinaire compte parmi les plus grands diamants « Fancy Vivid Yellow » au monde.

Un diamant rond taille brillant de 103,46 carats monté en bague par Graff complète la sélection. Cette pierre spectaculaire figure à la troisième place des plus grands diamants ronds dans l’ouvrage de référence Famous Diamonds (2008).

GENEVA- SOTHEBY’S Geneva announces that it will present three exceptional diamonds in its 13th of May 2014 Auction of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels.

Among these treasures, the historical Victory Diamond, was named in honour of the allied victory in World War II, a step-cut diamond weighing 31.34 carats. The rough was discovered in 1945 in the African “Woyie River” and was then the largest alluvial rough diamond ever found, weighing a massive 770 carats. In the early 1950s, thirty diamonds were cut from the rough, the largest gem being the Victory Diamond.

The stone has been graded by the GIA as “D” colour and Potentially Flawless; additionally it is “Type IIa”: a rare subcategory of diamonds which are chemically the purest of all diamond crystals and often have extraordinary optical transparency. The Victory Diamond formerly belonged to Florence Gould, celebrated as one of the truly great collectors of jewellery of the 20th Century. Est.
