The present classic Ottoman kaftan was worn by women at the court of the Sultan, and dates from the 19th century. It is made of dark purple velvet and embellished with rich gold thread embroideries that represent tendrils and flowers. The kaftan shows some wear. The velvet is partly rubbed off, and the gold thread embroidery is slightly damaged in places. The back length is 135 cm, and the sleeve length is 43 cm. The collar size is 40 cm.
